The statue of Mont-Ardoux

This statue of the Virgin Mary is located at an altitude of 233 meters, at the highest point of Pontailler, which offers a panoramic view of the Saône.

It was built in 1862 and, even today, it is a place of pilgrimage for August 15th. It is located on a hiking route that offers beautiful views of Vingeanne and its fields, as well as Franche-Comté and the Jura mountains.

Two overflow washhouses

These wash houses are still present on the Old Saône.

They adapt to the floods and ebbs of the river: the mechanisms from the beginning of the 20th century allow the floor of the wash house to be raised or lowered.

The beach on the Saône

It is free to access. Swimming is supervised by a lifeguard in the summer. Pontailler-sur-Saône is located on the "Petite Saône": a 159 km long section of the Saône river.

Until the end of the 19th century, the territory of Pontailler was made up of several islands.

The town's name is thought to come from the Latin Pontaliacum: the river that splits into several branches. The present-day Old Saône was the main branch of the river.
