Market gardening tradition
Labergement has light, sandy soils that are easy to cultivate. For 150 years, the Val de Saône was the most important market gardening region in Eastern France, with a production of nearly 30,000 tonnes.
To the 400 hectares conquered from the marsh, the market gardeners then added the lands of Labergement to cultivate various vegetables: "new" potatoes, asparagus, onion bulbs, beans, peas, carrots, onions, salads, Brussels sprouts, cauliflower and gherkins.
Saint Fiacre
He is the patron saint of gardeners. The market gardeners' association, called the Association of the Companions of Saint Fiacre, replaced the old Confraternity of Saint Fiacre (initiated in 1672).
It brings together market gardeners, horticulturists, florists and members of para-agricultural professions.
