The Saône Lateral Canal

The canal that runs through Heuilley-sur-Saône was built in the 19th century. The dikes protect the village from river flooding.

In 1835, a diversion canal was planned in connection with the construction of the Saône – Haute Marne canal (now called the "Canal between Champagne and Burgundy").

In 1839, work began after essential preparatory work that altered the landscape. The canal was opened to traffic in 1907.

In 2003, the Burgundy Regional Canoe-Kayak Committee created the EcoPagayeur® Route with the aim of promoting and protecting the natural environment.
