Clery

The Roman Road

The current departmental road that passes through Cléry follows the route of a very important ancient Roman road that connected Rome to Northern Europe.

This ancient route made it possible to go to Vesoncio (Besançon) and from there to Rome in Italy, or to the ports of the North Sea.

This route was later the route of the great invasions, a pilgrimage route, a royal road, before becoming the road of the Republic.
